Why “growing couches”?

My husband is super creative in so many ways and one that I find particularly amusing is his wordplay!  When we got married and started giving ourselves a “family” identity, it was always “the couches”.  You know, a davenport….sofa….couch…google it, I promise it’s true.  I wanted something incorporated into my new site that kept that fun, unique name that we’d coined for ourself.  When he went searching for images to use he came across some cool couches but as soon as he found the grass couch and blurted, “I know, growing couches”…it stuck.  A perfect analogy for our lives…growing ourselves and growing some kids…GROWING COUCHES.

About Me

Personally I fill many roles…daughter, sister, wife, mother, auntie, friend, teacher, coach (those are just the important ones…I’m also a chauffeur, laundress, baker, cook, cheerleader, doctor, etc. the list is extensive)!  I love each and every one of them in a unique and different way, well, I love the important ones, there’s a few minor roles I could do without.  My husband and I met when we were teenagers and have now shared 20 years of marriage.  In those years we’ve been privileged to parent two wonderful, energetic boys and two beautiful, spunky girls.

Why share my writing?

I started blogging in 2007 as a way to keep my extended family and friends updated on how my children were growing.  Over the years I’ve periodically shared things I’m learning, tidbits of books I’ve read and how it’s impacted me, the ups and downs of marriage and parenting and a few other topics!  In the process I’ve come to realize that I love writing.  I love putting my thoughts to word and knowing they won’t be lost in my somewhat unreliable memory.  My hope is that through my experiences, both joyful and challenging something can be learned and shared with those who may share similar experiences.
